We’re Playing Monstrous And Spooky Games on Shockwave!

Halloween is almost here and I’m spending my last moments before Trick or Treating (yes, I still go Trick or Treating) with all the Shockwave Monsters.  I’ve gathered them all up in one place where they’re waiting to shoot, hit and run and finally R.I.P. Whether you’re up for a grave shift, in the mood to pop some eye balls, or want to become The Pretender I’ve got you covered.

If you’re not scarred enough, there are some Spooky Download Specials.   I’m enjoying some legendary stories by the campfire, peeking into the Dracula Files and getting hooked on the spooktacular Fishdom sequel.

However, I must confess that my all-time Halloween game favorites are the special treats found in Daily Jigsaw and The Daily Diff.  Check ‘em out, ‘cause the special images and game trophies will be gone once the ghosts and zombies return to their graves.

Club Shockwave’s Free Game of the Week: Tower Up

Have you been wondering what this Club Shockwave thing is?  Asking yourself “Why should I join?”.  Thinking that some of those exclusive games look interesting, but been wary of taking the leap into a full membership?

This July 14th, get into the spirit of Bastille Day, France’s national commemoration of the 1789 storming of the Bastille prison that ignited the French Revolution. Try playing some great games with a French twist.

Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox takes you back in time to prerevolutionary France, where you’ll meet King Louis XVI as he tries to escape his angry subjects.

A Declaration of Fun!

Just in time for the long week-end, Shockwave has put a ton of best-selling games on sale! While some of you will be camping and watching fireworks displays, I’ll be playing some of my favorite games. For example, I like Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox, for a little seek and find fun, Build-a-lot 3, because it’s always been a dream of mine to build my own home, and Fishdom, not because I like fishing, but because currently, I can’t get enough of matching games.

The 5 Things I Love (and miss) Most About Canada

One hundred and forty two years ago today, Canada officially became a country (or a federal dominion, if you want to get all technical).  Every year around this time, I find myself reminiscing about my homeland and the things I’ve missed most since moving south.  This time I thought I’d share.  It’s a bit of a fool’s errand to create a list like this, because I could go on forever. Instead, I’ll cut myself off and invite you, our Shockwave canucks (and honorary canucks - we’re a welcoming people), to weigh in with your own favourites.

Oh, and given that this is Shockwave, I will pepper my little Canada tasting menu with a suggested game pairing for each item.  Bon appetit!

1. The TV: Where did the Nickelodeon slime come from?  A little show known as You Can’t Do That On Television.  One of my favourite Canadian shows to this day.  Of course, there’s also Kids in the Hall, SCTV, The Littlest Hobo, The Nature of Things, Degrassi - which we can still get our fill of in the US thanks again to our friends at Nick - and let’s never forget Mr. Dressup. (Game Pairing: Dress Up Rush)

2. The Savory: 12 grain bagels at Tim Horton’s. I order one every time I go there. The only thing that changes is whether I’m in a purist butter-only mood, or a loaded with herb and garlic cream cheese mood.  Oh, and Dr. Oetker’s Funghi Pizza.  (Game pairing: Coffee Rush)

3. The Sweets: Smarties (The M&M’s skinnier Canadian brother, not the candy wafer), Crispy Crunch, Butter Tarts, Nanaimo Bars.  At the risk of giving Timmie’s too much love - Timbits. (Game pairing: Chocolatier: Decadence by Design)

4. Two-four’s of the real stuff.  You know what I mean.  No, not Lime Rickey from The Pop Shoppe. (Game pairing: Yummy Drink Factory)

5. The Hip, tragically. (Game pairing: Riff Master 2)

Happy Birthday, Canada!  You don’t look a day over 120. That clean living is working wonders for you.

Our friends over at AddictingGames.com have a really cool event going on over at their site and on Nickelodeon. Check out the AG Showdown and see if any of your favorite games are up for an award! Check below for more information and be sure to cast your vote while you still can!

AddictingGames wants to give a shout out to some of our most awesome games. And we like the idea of being on television. So, for the first time ever, we’re honoring the greatest in online games with The AddictingGames Showdown, airing Saturday June 27th on Nickelodeon.

The AddictingGames team has been working hard: cooking up cool categories, like “Best Performance by a Monkey” and “Greatest Escape Game.” And then we had to go through more than 3,000 contenders to select the real over-achiever games.

This is where you come in. We have ten categories and four nominees in each category. You, dear gamers, will determine the winners. What do the winners get? Are you kidding? Fame, respect, adoration and bragging rights. What game wouldn’t be proud to win?

We have encountered an anomaly while exploring the Star Trek Jigsaw puzzles.  Shockwave’s crew is reporting that trophy progress can now be earned by solving any puzzle, even those that they have previously solved. This appears to be the result of a temporal rift - one that engineering is estimating will self-correct in approximately one week, taking these new trophies with it. All crewmembers are encouraged to win the trophies and store them safely in their Shockwave trophy case before this takes place. (In other words, win them while you can - they’re gone next week!  All it takes is a free Shockwave membership to get started.)

Certain days of the year are dedicated to a purpose that is above the day to do day cares and worries. This weekend that purpose is the person that most often finds herself deeply entangled in the day to day care and well-being of her family, the Mother. Mama is a word that transcends language barriers and is often one of the first words that children learn to say. In 1905 Anna Jarvis decided that Mom needs some official attention for all her hard work and dedication, so she spent many years and much of her fortune promoting the Mother’s Day movement. She succeeded and now each year the beginning of May is dominated by window displays advertising gifts for Mom. However, Jarvis’ original intent was beyond printed cards, candy and commercial tokens of appreciation; it was intended to for us to make Moms feel special.
