What We’re Playing: Puzzle Yourself

As you go about your business today, you may be unaware it is not just another Friday. Sure the day is already special as it’s the last stepping stone to the weekend, but this Friday January 29th is also National Puzzle Day. Who created this day and when still remains a puzzle, but in my book any excuse to play some puzzle games is to be honored. You know that Shockwave is my favorite resource for free online games (and download games too!), but it is especially wonderful when it comes down to puzzle games because there are games here I cannot find anywhere else online.

The Daily Jigsaw is one such game, presenting a new jigsaw game made fresh every day from your photos. That’s right, a new puzzle game every single day! Dive into this and other great free online jigsaw games right here, and if you become a Club Shockwave member, you can get access to an extra Bonus Jigsaw games every day, play the full puzzle archive with 100s more jigsaw games whenever you want and indulge in Daily Jigsaw Challenges. Oh, and let’s not forget the tokens, available to all Shockwave members and the trophies that Club Club Shockwave Members can win and display in their trophy cases.

The Daily Diff is also a Shockwave exclusive puzzle game that runs on your (and my) very own photos. With this game I never have to grow up, as the childhood favorite has grown up and migrated to Shockwave.com, ready and available for my gaming pleasure whenever there is a spare moment. I love playing with a new puzzle daily, created from photos submitted by players like you. So go on, test your powers of observations and improve your scrutinizing skills one gorgeous photo at a time! Win tokens and trophies while you’re at it!

If you’re in the mood for more games (I am always) and Shockwave exclusive photo puzzle fun, cross the line every day into jigsaw game fun with Line by Line. It’s your photos, cut up into vertical tiles, and rearranged. You get to move each tile to its correct location within the photo before the image moves out of frame. Tokens and trophies reward here too, and I particularly like the music and artistic style because every time I play, I get transported to another puzzle dimension.
Have some photos on your hard drive? Share with others and let them become a puzzle by submitting them right here.

But, don’t think it’s all just about the photo puzzles. When I’m in the mood for some Sudoku, there’s plenty to keep me playing for hours with Daily Sudoku (yes, daily means a new puzzle game every day), and Sudoku Mega, Sudoku X, Ancient Sudku, and more . Care to exercise your linguistic skills? I sharpen my vocabulary at QuoteSlide, Word Roundup Frenzy, and Word Expres, a Club Shockwave exclusive game. There’s even Word Roundup Bingo where you can use your lingo to solve the play bingo every day (another one of those wonderful daily play games.

Sometimes I need to play outside the box, that’s when I jump into a game of Use Boxmen where I get to use my friends (the one’s in the game) to get ahead in a platform puzzle or check out Mind the Box with cool artwork and sweet power-ups. Let’s not forget other boxy favorites like Blocky, Cubis 2, Brickz! and Bloxorz. The matching dilemmas, the power of a pen and the laws of physics challenge my brain for hours.Speaking of the brain, puzzle game solving is great to keep the noggin in shape. Shockwave has a whole category of Brain Games which can help your think tank get its daily exercise.
I think by now you realize that  Shockwave is the place where I’ll be celebrating puzzle day (and every day). There’s lots of puzzling fun that I haven’t mentioned like the explosiveness of Demolition City 2 and Dynamite Blast, the popping fun of Popopopop and Pop & Drop and the glitz of Bejeweled 2. Trust me, there are many more games) than a single blog post can hold. That’s why it’s all neatly displayed in the Puzzle Games category on Shockwave.com. With so many games to play, I have to stop right here and go puzzle myself. Come join me on Shockwave.com!

Tricks & Tips: Demolition City 2

One would think that blowing stuff up would be really easy. Especially when you have a large amount of explosives and fun music in the background to egg you on. However, this is not the case in one of our newest games on Shockwave, “Demolition City 2”. In this highly explosive action game, it is up to you to help clear space for new buildings in a variety of environments. The buildings are made of all sorts of materials, which mean each building has a different way of going down. In order to help you get through this one, I’ve come up with a few tips and also found a really cool video that will help you place your explosives!

- Less is more – When setting up your explosives, remember that the fewer you use, the more points you get!

- Attack the joints – The easiest way to bring down a building is to blow it up at it’s most load bearing points. In this case those would be the joints and support columns that many of these structures rely on to stay up. Take these out and watch the wreckage fall!

- Use your Explosives wisely – If you need to use all of your TNT, remember to spread out your explosives to cover a larger area. This stuff packs a punch so there is no need to keep it too close!

- Finally slow down and don’t forget to blow up any bonus structure – To get the most cash for your hard work, get the job done right the first time. Carefully plot out where you want to set your charges and be sure to take any bonus structures into account so you can be sure to get the highest score possible!

If you follow these tips your game is sure to improve! If you still feel stuck then just forget about everything I said and watch the video. You will see exactly where you need to place each charge so you won’t be stuck on any one level for too long.

Thanks again for checking in with Tricks and Tips and we will see you again next time.
