Hey everyone… hope you’re all enjoying the last days of summer. Wish I could say I’ve had some time to smell the roses – or rather, the apple blossoms! – but lately, our country jam seems way busier than life in the city ever was.
Long lineups and short tempers have found me a little more stressed out than usual, to be honest, and I finally realized why: I was running myself ragged all day long. At first, I brought in reinforcements – with me, Will, Safi and Peter working the store, I figured keeping the customers happy would be a piece of cake. Turns out it’s not that simple.
Maintaining my physical energy with a rest or a snack wasn’t enough, either; I’ve got to keep my spirits up, too. For me, it turns out staying connected to my loved ones requires more than just sitting down to dinner together every night… our social well-being needs constant care and replenishment in order for us to handle the daily ups and downs with style and grace.
The solution? Checkers and chit-chat! Putting a board out was Grettle’s idea, and it really works wonders
Taking a break from the cooking and the customers to spend a few moment just chatting, one-on-one, with Will or one of the kids really does wonders to lift my spirits and recharge my batteries.
This is why we came here, after all… to get to know each other once more and pull together as a team. To let the business of running the store and the huge and, quite frankly, unexpected success it has become get in the way of that goal would defeat the whole point!
As a family, we’re at a crossroads, but we’re figuring it all out together, one day at a time…
